This week’s pick was taken at a gallery opening we attended as part of Tel Aviv Fashion Night Out event. The gallery featured an exhibit by contemporary artist Eran Shakine whose pieces were very much fashion-forward.

Happy almost-weekend fellow fashionistas!

We chose this week’s picture because it really reminds us of fall. You can almost feel the cold wind blowing through the tree. Where we are fall is just starting to show face, so we’re getting very excited about our fall wardrobes. Next week we’ll be sharing our fall essentials and tips for fabulous fall styling!

Hello fellow fashion lovers!
In honor of the next Tel Aviv Fashion Week we decided to feature our favorite designers, ones that have completely unique designs and who seem to exist in their own unique universe in the fashion world. The first designer was Liat Ginzburg and this time it is Adi Ashur.

IMG_95832

The designer only graduated with a degree in fashion design two years ago and already has impressive range and experience under her belt. We’ve worked with Adi in the past (see post here), every time we see a new collection of her design we are awe-inspired. It’s very rare to see such a young designer with the level of talent, creativity, and craftsmanship that she has.

Adi’s inspiration comes from the circus: everything is about the “show”. The outfit must create a lasting impression that is part of the performance and the drama. There’s no doubt that Adi’s designs leave a lasting impression.

IMG_95142 IMG_95812

Black and white are the perfect colors for any occasion and every season: from office to evening to casual wear. We love that while Adi’s collection was based on these basic, accessible colors, she made a couture extravaganza out of them.

The first dress Vera wore was actually designed to be a bridal gown, in Adi’s very modern and unique take on what bridal gowns should be. It was hand woven from silk threads and then the designer unraveled the threads in the upper body to create a cut similar to that of a corset.

Last night we attended one of our favorite fashion events of the year: Fashion Night Out Tel Aviv, the kick start event for Tel Aviv Fashion Week. This is only the second year the event takes place in our city, last year’s event was such a success that it was bound to become an annual fashion tradition!

IMG_04592

As in last year’s event, FNO was held at Kikar Hamedina, Tel Aviv’s central square of luxury shopping.

IMG_62682

The square’s luxurious boutiques opened their doors to fashion enthusiasts, society ladies, models, journalists, and innocent passers-by enjoying the celebrations.

This year’s event was extra special though, as it featured a modern art exhibit by artist Eran Shakine, held at the square’s Zemack Gallery.

We really enjoyed this exhibit; you know how much we love our art, and especially art inspired by fashion. The bronze heels sculptures could be likened to three dimensional fashion illustrations.

We browsed the amazing sales the boutiques had to offer. We were obviously blinded by all the Gucci, Burberry, Lanvin, Prada, etc, but our favorite boutiques were the ones selling local labels, from the well-known to the obscure, and really unique clothing.

What We Wear was honored to attend the opening of international artist Grimanesa Amoros’ exhibit at Tel Aviv’s Litvak gallery.

IMG_6031
The exhibit, titled Light Between the Islands, consists of installations of “islands” of bubble forms of various sizes with varying drawings imprinted on them.

Light between the Islands

The bubbles are arranged in modular units and layers scattered around the space with changing light scenes achieved by LED lighting that deeply change the feeling of each island of bubbles – from solid forms that seem to permanently occupy the space to floating ethereal bubbles. The reflective concrete floor of the gallery intensified the visual effects.

Light Between the Islands Light Between the Islands

Visitors of the exhibit took an active part in it, walking around the islands and creating their own shadows in the space and changing their own appearance as the lighting changed.

We absolutely loved Amoros’ exquisite work and the play on lights and shadows and prints on different forms. The rhythmic organization of the forms in the space truly made us feel as if we were walking on dark water between islands of magical light.

The exhibit is currently on display at Litvak Gallery, a gallery with special focus on glass art. Litvak gallery has featured international glass artists such as Dale Chihuly, Howard Ben Tre and Vaclav Cigler, as well as other world renowned artists.

An additional exhibit on display at the gallery was Czechoslovakian artist Vaclav Cigler’s Spheres, part of his exhibit Light and Space. Cigler’s exhibit features geometric forms made from cut solid optical glass of various transparency and translucency.

What we always find interesting in these exhibits is how each visitor has their own take and perspective on the art. As fashion bloggers who have been disciplined in architecture, we saw the forms as beautiful jewels nesting on beautiful architectural structures.

Fashion imitates Art

Present at the opening were international artists such as Amoros herself and Israeli London-based designer/architect Ron Arad, whose works we have reported on in past posts.

To achieve classy looks we both chose modern LBDs for this opening. Here’s what we wore:
Vera wore a strapless bow tied taffeta dress with a leather jacket, black high heeled mary-janes, and print tights. Vera accessorized with gorgeous jewelry by one of our favorite local jewelry designers, Ariversa.

Rony wore a studded collar dress with a black cardigan, black tights and studded slipper flats. Rony accessorized with an oversized studded cream clutch and gold cuffs.

Hello boys and girls!

Winter is striking hard, even for us in Israel, where we usually enjoy warm weather year-round. The gray skies and cold winds make it so hard to get out of bed and start the day. All we want to wear are our biggest and warmest sweaters!

Big winter sweaters

Oversized, masculine clothing is very in right now and shows no intention of disappearing from the fashion forecast. Oversized pieces could be anything from jackets to skirts; from your boyfriend jeans, to your boyfriend’s never-worn sweater or some plus sized tunic that can be worn as a dress! Everything goes!
Over sized pieces can be quite tricky though; If you don’t wear them right you might look a bit… well, ridiculous! Whenever wearing something really big remember to put it together with something more form-fitting to create some contrast: a tight dress or skirt, skinny jeans or leggings will do the trick. When wearing an oversized dress or tunic a belt will do the job.

Vera wore an oversized striped sweater over a striped black and white mini dress with black sheer tights, red flats, glass and metal necklace and a black and white knit scarf.

Every girl has her favorite piece of clothing, a piece that she can wear with everything for everything and that makes her feel at her best! But what do you do when your favorite piece is only suitable for warm weather? Layering!

Winter outfits

Layers are always in fashion, the more the merrier! Layering not only makes the outfit suitable for almost any weather conditions, but can also conceal certain body parts and accentuate certain parts you’d like to show off.

This allows the comeback of your favorite summer staples, but is also a very economical attitude – rather than buying new, revive your favorites by wearing them with new layers and accessories.

Rony and Vera

Rony’s favorite piece from summer is a blue and pink-collar cut out romper. To make it suitable for the cold months of winter she wore it over a striped button down blouse and print tights. Rony completed her outfit with leopard print slipper flats, cream and pink bag and neon chain necklaces.

**Tip for mixing prints**: Keep the outfit in the same color palettes or color families so that even if you wear three or more different prints, they will agree with each other rather than clash. Rony did so with her striped blouse, the same color family as her romper and trench, together with print tights that go with her bag.

Vera’s favorite summer pieces are an oversized pale pink tunic and a burgundy cotton skirt. To make these items cold-weather ready she put them together with a cream knit sweater, faux fur fluffy cardigan, and light brown tights. To complete the outfit Vera wore brown brogues, black leather bag and an oversized ring pendant chain necklace.

**Tip for mixing colors**:  Keep the outfit in similar shades and texture for each color. Vera did so by working up the shade and color scale, from cream to light pink to brown to plum to deep wine red.

A trench is a must during the rainy Israeli winter, so both of us topped the outfit off with our favorite trench coats.

Another great way to bring some summer sunshine into your life is by wearing bright shades of nail polish! Vera chose bright pink and Rony chose bright orange.

Lots of kisses and cuddles,
V&R

We love being feminine, and being the girly girls we are, we can greatly appreciate a good skirt or dress.

However, there’s nothing sexier than a woman who can carry off a good pair of trousers, the more masculine the better.  Pants can be elegant and dressy in a very cool, non-obvious way.

What better way to display our pants than with an architectural, metropolitan backdrop?!

Unfortunately the strong wind knocked down my camera and we had no choice but to continue the photo shoot with our iPhones. But don’t despair! The fun continued as we played on the beautiful concrete sculptures.

Vera wore wide legged pants that with all the wind and volume looked like a very cool maxi skirt. She put together an edgy look with a striped top, gray vest, studded belt, ballerina flats, silver chain necklaces and a massive rhinestone ring.

I wore jockey-like balloon pants, one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing I own, with a button down shirt, high heeled oxfords, vintage Ray Bans, big rings, and peachy necklace and earrings.

While we did decide we wanted to post about some of our coolest trousers, we never agreed on color, and somehow we ended up coordinating our color palettes. What can we say, great minds think alike!
