This weekend marked Tel Aviv’s annual T-Market event, a fashion event that celebrates local young talents in design. Although the central idea behind this event started as a T-shirt market, it has expanded beyond and now features clothes, accessories, shoes, bags and even art, as well as cool live music and cheap booze.

IMG_23142

The whole layout of the event had a very market place feel, which we loved. It made the atmosphere cool and laid back and allowed the designers to get really creative with their displays. Not to mention that the designs on display were sold at (almost) market prices. The sales were insane and we just couldn’t resist. The accessible prices and fun young atmosphere made this a kind of fashion event for the masses.

Here are some of our favorite designs:
Shani Jacobi‘s interesting geometric jewelry incorporates leather, gold and Swarovski crystals for a look that is sure to make a statement.

IMG_23271 IMG_23281Rony picked out Jacobi’s minimalistic gold rings.

T-Market sold amazing clutches in just about every color, size and texture.

IMG_23301 IMG_23311 Rony picked out an oversized wicker clutch.

IMG_23322

Punchaos is a jewelry and accessories label with girly and retro designs. It is clear that designers Jessica and Yuval love to experiment with material and color and the results are beautiful.

IMG_23171 IMG_23161 IMG_23191We love seeing how designer Odelia gets better and better each time we see her designs. Her beautiful nature-inspired display caught our attention and we loved the designer’s new rings collection.

IMG_23481 IMG_23491 IMG_23511 IMG_23551 IMG_23521You may remember Odelia’s chic clutches from last year’s event. Rony scored Odelia’s delicate and beautiful gold heart bracelet.

IMG_23731

Sackpack had a very chic adult version of that sack pack we used to have as kids, in various materials, textures and colors.

IMG_23611 IMG_23631

One of the coolest displays by far were by Dima Gorbachev, who had his super cool T-Shirts taped to the walls.

IMG_23591

Natalie Motlis, the designer behind jewelry label Lilla My, is one that never fails to make us feel a serious sugar rush because her designs are so sweet and creative.

IMG_23641You may remember the label from this post and this post. From the adorable creatures adorning her jewelry (bulldogs, kitties, fish, rocking horses and many more) to the unique pieces they are made of, to the gorgeous display, Lilla My is always a treat!

IMG_23651 IMG_23671 IMG_23691

Rony wore a houndstooth print crop top with high waisted long shorts, peep toe bow pumps, blue and orange clutch, colorful necklace from Madrid and hair tie.

On the 2nd-3rd of January 2014, Israel will be launching the second annual Small Businesses Day. This is an initiative encouraging people to support and shop at small businesses with the intent of helping these businesses flourish and significantly increasing their sales. Businesses that participate in this initiative get significant exposure to potential clients which allows them to offer special sales and promotions. The consumers are then encouraged to buy more at these businesses, and everyone is happy! In addition, on this occasion businesses have the opportunity to win a business promotion package and even to win 30,000 NIS to help launch their business (More details about these business opportunities here).

As two women who always prefer shopping for unique pieces in small boutiques and local designers, we are more than happy to support this initiative. For this occasion we decided to post about one of our favorite small businesses, AriVersa Jewelry.

20111107-20111107-dsc_0470

AriVersa, by his real name Arie, designs and hand makes unique and sophisticated jewelry out of gold, silver and precious stones. Arie’s studio and workshop are based in his home and most of his clients hear about him through word of mouth and through jewelry workshop experts.
Besides being a great designer, Arie specializes in unique stone inlaying and setting techniques and has impressive craftsmanship abilities that have brought a lot of attention to his work.
We first encountered Arie’s work as students in design school; many jewelry design students came to Arie for guidance and mentorship in their studies.

20111107-20111107-dsc_0428

This is one designer who was not educated in design, he comes from a background in Engineering and a health issue made it very difficult to continue his work as an Engineer.
In his search for hobbies and new interests to keep himself occupied he came across a beginners’ jewelry making course, and the rest is history.
He loved learning about the craftsmanship behind the design and developed his skills further and further until he was ready to open his own studio and share his talent with the world.

Arie’s pieces are very diverse, from hi-tech modern jewelry to classic style pieces. He is inspired by everything around him, from nature to urban life to creating precious jewelry that women can incorporate into their everyday lives. Like a true engineer, he always tries to invent new methods of working the materials and experiments with new technologies of jewelry making.

This is what drew us to Arie’s work; he is so technically skilled and his work is so accurate that he is nearly unmatched in his field.

His clients know that any piece they purchase will be created with the finest materials and in the highest quality.

You may remember Arie’s jewelry from a previous post we published, where we used the lavish jewels to create luxe looks!

Hello fellow fashion enthusiasts!
Fashion weeks from all over the world are filling up our schedules and all the fashion websites we come across. The Israeli fashion weeks won’t disappoint either, from the more conceptual fashion week in Holon to the fashion extravaganza in Tel Aviv! We bring you reports with the inside scoop!

Fashion Week is a very exciting time because, other than runway shows and celeb sightings, each city hosting fashion week also opens a series of fashion and design exhibits for all the public to enjoy. These amazing exhibits show a new and different look into the Israeli fashion industry.

Couple Of

IMG_93762

We attended From Sketch to Shoe, a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the design process that goes into the creation of shoes at fashion house Couple Of, one of the most unique shoe-makers in Israel.
The exhibit featured beautiful illustrations that designers Shelly Satat and Eilon Combor develop and perfect as part of designing their “perfect shoe” – one that is both unique and functional, and the technology used to create the final product – CAD tools and laser cutting.

IMG_93861 IMG_93832 IMG_93903 IMG_93931 IMG_93952

The exhibit was held at Holon Institute of Technology, one of the best design schools in the country, where the courtyards are decorated with innovative projects.

One of our favorites: a garden chair made out of old CD’s, bringing together recycling, design and innovation.

IMG_93982 IMG_94012

From Jewel to Practicality

Our next stop was an amazing jewelry exhibit inspired by puzzle games. The exhibit was divided into four groups of puzzle games, each group exhibiting different variations of jewelry styles.
The idea behind the designs is simple yet very sophisticated and allowed designer Yael Fridman to create beautiful pieces that any girl would love to wear.

IMG_94061 IMG_94402

The exhibit went further to discuss the possibility of jewelry becoming a game or a toy rather than just an object of aesthetics.

IMG_94312

Fridman’s jewels were designed and developed using computer technology and 3D printing machines both during the research process and while creating the final product. This was intriguing to us because, much like in the field of architecture, computed aided production and manufacturing is the way of the future and is sure to change how we think and create as designers.

It’s so inspiring to see an artist’s work process and to see them in their element.
We were invited to Hagar Satat’s studio to experience some of her work process as she launches her new collection. As two girls who live and breathe fashion sometimes we feel that we’ve seen all. Satat’s work, however, surprised and excited us!

IMG_80371IMG_80401

Hagar Satat is a celebrated Israeli jewelry and accessories designer. She graduated from the prestigious Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and soon after opened her first design studio and launched her first collection. She has her own stores in Tel Aviv and sells her designs at retailers across the country, as well as in North America and Europe.

While Hagar’s education focused mostly on jewelry, she also explored different areas of fashion and textile. These different disciplines are displayed nicely in Hagar’s creations, her accessories are focused on creating the perfect dialogue between the materials she uses – silver and gold, leather, plastic, and fabrics.

IMG_80412 IMG_80421 IMG_80433 IMG_80441

IMG_80921 IMG_80621 IMG_80642

We were lucky enough to have been treated to a private tour of the studio, while Satat herself explained her design process in each collection. We then snooped around every shelf and nook of the studio, trying to take in as much design as possible!

IMG_80461IMG_80601

We are big fans of Hagar’s designs and were delighted to get a glimpse into the behind the scenes of the designer’s work. Satat’s jewels have the capability not only to upgrade an outfit, but even to make the outfit and become the main attraction rather than the background piece.

Our favorite pieces:
We are absolutely in love with Hagar’s gold, PVC and leather cuffs!

IMG_80681 IMG_80392 IMG_80671

They slip on the wrist, no need for annoying clasps that scratch your skin. they come in gorgeous colors, perfect for summer. They make a statement all on their own but also look amazing piled up! These are definitely going on our birthday wish list!

IMG_80722 IMG_80732

Satat recently launched a new collection, Perlin, offering jewelry that can be suited for younger clients and is more accessible and day-to-day ready.

IMG_80941 IMG_80451

The best part of the event was that Hagar treated us to our own leather and gold bracelets! We got to pick the color of the leather braid, both of us picked a gorgeous green color, and are now proud owners of a limited edition Hagar Satat bracelet!

IMG_80852 IMG_81101 IMG_81012 IMG_81032
Have we mentioned how much we love being fashion bloggers?!

Hagar looked lovely in an oversized print tunic, minimalistic sandals, and her own leather and gold drop necklace.

This was a very fun and inspired week for What We Wear as we attended “Flash”, a fashion event that promotes young up and coming designers.

Flash Fashion Event

The event featured the latest collections in clothing, jewelry, outerwear and even tights. All the gorgeous creations on sale were definitely a sight for sore eyes!

Among our favorite collections on display at the event:
Petitaureau: A jewelry and accessories label designed by the talented Mayan Hazan which features ultra feminine and delicate items with admirable attention to details. Everything from the pendants (or pin) to the clasps is adorned with hearts, stars, skulls, etc. Adorable!

Itay Gonen Accessories: An eponymous label offering serious statement making jewelry made from a variety of materials. This is the kind of jewelry that could make an entire outfit, no need for anything else!

Ida Nudel: Remember our lavish photoshoot with fashion designer Adi Ashur? Ida Nudel was her classmate at Wizo Design Academy, and is just as talented. On display were feminine and adorable tops, dresses and pants. We were really impressed by the craftsmanship of Ida’s collection, particularly the hand-sewn jackets! Gorgeous works of art!

Some other designer highlights were Guapa, a collection dedicated to leggings, in every color and every print! The designer was just as cool as her pieces.

Miki B‘s collection offers beautiful clothes in so many colors and prints. Our favorite was a fluffy, sparkly, multicolored number that we wish we would’ve found before New Year’s Eve; it would’ve been the perfect piece to wear!

Lately fashion has been all about the opulent, the festive and glamorous, the excessive, the Baroque. Designers everywhere have been sending their models down the catwalk in clothes, shoes and accessories rich enough to suit 19th century duchesses.

While we adore this trend, not all of us regular day fashionistas have the guts, the confidence, the money and the body to pull off head to toe baroque like certain Vogue editors (ehemm Anna Dello Russo).

For us, practicality is usually the top priority and we must find a way to put together an outfit that -while never neglecting bon chic- works around the clock for our hectic schedules. While over the top always makes a statement, it must also be accessible.

Vera’s favorite Baroque pieces in her wardrobe are a knit golden threaded pullover and a purple rope and gold necklace.

Vera's baroque pieces

Vera's outfitThese pieces alone are so attention-grabbing they could make the whole outfit.

Vera's outfit

IMG_54981

Vera went for the cool biker chic look, choosing mostly blacks to offset the dramatic pieces. Under the knit cardigan she wore a sheer top which made the outfit more romantic, leather jacket, dark jeans, and faux-fur trimmed booties.

IMG_54992

Vera’s necklace is such a show maker she didn’t need any other major accessories.

Vera's outfit

Rony’s favorite Baroque pieces are a brownish gray lace dress and gold and emerald earrings.

Rhinestones, gold and emeraldPeplum and lace

Rony’s dress, with its feminine lace and curve hugging shape is too provocative to be worn during the daytime. Rony made the dress more demure by wearing a peplum rhinestones-adorned blouse.

IMG_54781 IMG_54881 Rony's outfit

The glamorous look can be achieved with just a few key items that keep everyone on their toes, yet don’t look overdone.
