This weekend marked Tel Aviv’s annual T-Market event, a fashion event that celebrates local young talents in design. Although the central idea behind this event started as a T-shirt market, it has expanded beyond and now features clothes, accessories, shoes, bags and even art, as well as cool live music and cheap booze.

IMG_7250

IMG_23142

The whole layout of the event had a very market place feel, which we loved. It made the atmosphere cool and laid back and allowed the designers to get really creative with their displays. Not to mention that the designs on display were sold at (almost) market prices. The sales were insane and we just couldn’t resist. The accessible prices and fun young atmosphere made this a kind of fashion event for the masses.

Here are some of our favorite designs:
Shani Jacobi‘s interesting geometric jewelry incorporates leather, gold and Swarovski crystals for a look that is sure to make a statement.

IMG_23271 IMG_23281Rony picked out Jacobi’s minimalistic gold rings.

T-Market sold amazing clutches in just about every color, size and texture.

IMG_23301 IMG_23311 Rony picked out an oversized wicker clutch.

IMG_23322

Punchaos is a jewelry and accessories label with girly and retro designs. It is clear that designers Jessica and Yuval love to experiment with material and color and the results are beautiful.

IMG_23171 IMG_23161 IMG_23191We love seeing how designer Odelia gets better and better each time we see her designs. Her beautiful nature-inspired display caught our attention and we loved the designer’s new rings collection.

IMG_23481 IMG_23491 IMG_23511 IMG_23551 IMG_23521You may remember Odelia’s chic clutches from last year’s event. Rony scored Odelia’s delicate and beautiful gold heart bracelet.

IMG_23731

Sackpack had a very chic adult version of that sack pack we used to have as kids, in various materials, textures and colors.

IMG_23611 IMG_23631

One of the coolest displays by far were by Dima Gorbachev, who had his super cool T-Shirts taped to the walls.

IMG_23591

Natalie Motlis, the designer behind jewelry label Lilla My, is one that never fails to make us feel a serious sugar rush because her designs are so sweet and creative.

IMG_23641You may remember the label from this post and this post. From the adorable creatures adorning her jewelry (bulldogs, kitties, fish, rocking horses and many more) to the unique pieces they are made of, to the gorgeous display, Lilla My is always a treat!

IMG_23651 IMG_23671 IMG_23691

Rony wore a houndstooth print crop top with high waisted long shorts, peep toe bow pumps, blue and orange clutch, colorful necklace from Madrid and hair tie.

Hello fellow fashion lovers!
In honor of the next Tel Aviv Fashion Week we decided to feature our favorite designers, ones that have completely unique designs and who seem to exist in their own unique universe in the fashion world. The first designer was Liat Ginzburg and this time it is Adi Ashur.

IMG_95832

The designer only graduated with a degree in fashion design two years ago and already has impressive range and experience under her belt. We’ve worked with Adi in the past (see post here), every time we see a new collection of her design we are awe-inspired. It’s very rare to see such a young designer with the level of talent, creativity, and craftsmanship that she has.

Adi’s inspiration comes from the circus: everything is about the “show”. The outfit must create a lasting impression that is part of the performance and the drama. There’s no doubt that Adi’s designs leave a lasting impression.

IMG_95092 IMG_95123

IMG_95142 IMG_95812

Black and white are the perfect colors for any occasion and every season: from office to evening to casual wear. We love that while Adi’s collection was based on these basic, accessible colors, she made a couture extravaganza out of them.

The first dress Vera wore was actually designed to be a bridal gown, in Adi’s very modern and unique take on what bridal gowns should be. It was hand woven from silk threads and then the designer unraveled the threads in the upper body to create a cut similar to that of a corset.

Vera accessorized with a headband and collar necklaces in silver and pearls.

IMG_96341 IMG_96372 IMG_96391 IMG_96413 IMG_95313

Rony wore a backless knit top with a high waisted layered skirt with jewel and lace overlay.

Rony accessorized with a bejeweled turban, chain necklace and studded clutch.

For Rony’s second outfit she wore a form fitting dress with a bow tied tulle cape.

In a world where fashion is accessible anywhere and everywhere on the web, every designer item has a knockoff and when a trend becomes trendy every self respecting fashionista wears it (case in point: the Zara skort), we want unique!

It has always been our goal, and we know that many girls share these feelings, to wear something that not everyone has, something more special and rare.
In comes jewelry designer Liat Ginzburg.

IMG_00931 IMG_03161

Ginzburg jewelry can best be described as works of art. All pieces are hand made by the designer and no two pieces are exactly the same.

Liat creates her jewelry using unique components, from vintage pieces from the 70`s and the 80`s, which she collects on her travels in streets and markets around the world, to various plastic, perspex, rubber and wood components, combined with pieces created by laser cutter.

IMG_00841 IMG_00871

IMG_03131

Ginzburg’s unique jewelry has been featured in the most prestigious fashion magazines around the world, from Italian Vogue to French Grazia, to Spanish Harper’s Bazaar, to Belle Mode. She has become the darling of stylists and celebs and women from across the world. While we were photoshooting at Liat’s studio, jewelry was getting picked up for Trinny and Susannah’s Tv show, currently being shot in Israel.

That’s pretty impressive for a designer who doesn’t even have a PR or marketing team. She must not need one, her stunning jewelry speaks for itself.

What we wore

The styling idea behind our outfits for this post was to create a blank canvas for Liat’s beautiful jewelry. After reading our friend Diana of Manhattan Image and Style‘s post on colors that go with your skin tone, we realized we love clothes in light yellows but never actually wear them because we always assumed they would look bad with our fair skin! Diana inspired us to give these colors a try!

Vera wore a plaid yellow strapless dress with a sheer banana blouse and light beige sweater on top.

IMG_02182

Vera is now starting the third trimester of her pregnancy so she has quite a big belly, which by now is pretty difficult to hide.

IMG_01282

Vera likes to show off other parts of her body, like her legs which have stayed skinny throughout her pregnancy (some girls are just lucky!).
Vera’s outfit, composed of layers, knits, and tights, is perfect for fall and as the weather gets colder.

Rony wore a cream sheer top with Topshop banana tweed shorts and a vintage beige masculine blazer.

IMG_02561

IMG_01971Rony’s shorts do a great job showing off her long legs; since they are so short, wearing them with oversized pieces on top keeps the outfit elegant and interesting.

We do believe opposites attract when it comes to fashion so to set off our sexy outfits, we both rocked masculine flat booties, perfect for fall!

This photoshoot was taken at Liat’s studio, a wonderland in its own right, rich with colors and textures and adorable animals that model jewelry!

For the last in the series of exhibits we attended as part of the educational and inspiring Holon Fashion Week, we had the great pleasure of visiting world renowned Milliner Stephen Jones‘ hat exhibit.

IMG_6239

Mr. Jones is one of the most important milliners of the 20th and early 21st century. He has designed hats for the likes of Dior couture and Vivienne Westwood, as well as icons like Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Lady Gaga and Boy George. His designs have been exhibited at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum (more from the museum here), and was invited as a guest of Holon Fashion Week, to educate the local fashion community on iconic fashion-making.

The exhibit showcased a collection of some of Jones’ favorite hats, in varying materials and styles.

IMG_00031

IMG_99871 IMG_99891 IMG_99912

We were really impressed with the craftsmanship and design behind the hats but what we loved the most was the humor and fun that Mr. Jones infuses into each and every single one of his hats. And that’s what fashion should be, no? Fun and never taking itself too seriously.

IMG_99941 IMG_99921

Some of our favorites:
A matador inspired hat adorned with a silk flower, the perfect match between strong and bold and feminine and pretty.

IMG_00061 IMG_00081

Oversized metal eyelashes.

IMG_99961 IMG_99981

We wished there was more on display, Jones’ stunning creations left us craving more!

The exhibit was held at the Holon Design Museum which always houses intriguing design exhibits. You may remember this museum from the awe-inspiring Yohji Yamamoto exhibit we attended.

While we were there we decided to visit another exhibit, this one by Ron Arad, the industrial designer/architect who designed the museum itself.

IMG_00222

What’s so interesting about Ron Arad is that in everything he designs, whether it’s architecture, furniture, or art, he employs what we like to call “new age artisanship”.
Computer softwares and technologies are employed at every stage of the work process, from planning to design to implementation and production. This becomes very interesting with the different materials Arad uses, from metals to plastics to video projected onto silicon cables.

Last weekend we visited Tel Aviv’s T:Market fashion event, a hip gathering of the coolest people in town and the most amazing up and coming designers.

While the original idea behind this event was a T Shirt market, it has expanded far beyond. Some of the coolest ready to wear designers in town sold clothes, jewelry, accessories, bags, tights, etc, and all at ridiculous sale prices!

Tel Aviv has a growing number of boutique hotels, each one with its own unique style and chic version of urban accommodation. We had the great privilege of staying at one of the city’s coolest new boutique hotels – Artplus Tel Aviv.

portfolio01_big

This hotel was named 2013 top Israel hotels by Traveler’s Choice, and rightfully so. It is located on Ben Yehuda street in central Tel Aviv, a two minute walk from Tel Aviv’s famous strip of Mediterranean shoreline.

We have both visited big cities around the world, whether in the US, Europe, Canada, or South America (not to mention that Vera grew up in St. Petersburg and Rony in Boston), and we often feel that we’ve seen it all – all the hotels are the same with their own little twists here and there, there’s rarely a surprise. Artplus, however, is a breath of fresh air in what seems a jaded sector of architecture and design.

The main façade of the hotel, on busy Ben Yehuda street, is a gentle and understated play on glass, shading, and graphic art. It is a modern take on Tel Aviv’s famous Bauhaus architecture that immediately, although very subtly, draws attention and lures visitors.

Artplus-Hotel-Tel-Avivtel-aviv-artplus-gay

This hotel celebrates art and design on every level. The lobby holds a gorgeous library filled with art and design books and is of course decorated with fantastic pieces of furniture.

800px-Lobby_of_the_Artplus_Hotel_Tel_Aviv

IMG_60041 IMG_60012 IMG_60021Rony enjoys the artful surroundings at the hotel lobby.

Each floor of the hotel is painted and decorated by a different local artist, which places the hotel perfectly in its surroundings – a beautiful take on street art, except the art now becomes part of the interior design. The hotel also hosts exhibit openings for young and upcoming artists.

ARTPLUS-HOTEL-nivi-alroei-401-e1358929645764

A wood mural by artist Nivi Alroy decorates some of the hotel’s walls.

The rooms are absolutely lovely, and besides vast windows and clean minimalistic design, each have unique dramatic lighting fixtures. The hotel offers a great breakfast with a surprising amount of choice, which one can enjoy indoors or in a beautiful garden.

Another one of the hotel’s main pluses is that the beach is just a minute walk away!
