Tel Aviv has a growing number of boutique hotels, each one with its own unique style and chic version of urban accommodation. We had the great privilege of staying at one of the city’s coolest new boutique hotels – Artplus Tel Aviv.

This hotel was named 2013 top Israel hotels by Traveler’s Choice, and rightfully so. It is located on Ben Yehuda street in central Tel Aviv, a two minute walk from Tel Aviv’s famous strip of Mediterranean shoreline.

We have both visited big cities around the world, whether in the US, Europe, Canada, or South America (not to mention that Vera grew up in St. Petersburg and Rony in Boston), and we often feel that we’ve seen it all – all the hotels are the same with their own little twists here and there, there’s rarely a surprise. Artplus, however, is a breath of fresh air in what seems a jaded sector of architecture and design.

The main façade of the hotel, on busy Ben Yehuda street, is a gentle and understated play on glass, shading, and graphic art. It is a modern take on Tel Aviv’s famous Bauhaus architecture that immediately, although very subtly, draws attention and lures visitors.

This hotel celebrates art and design on every level. The lobby holds a gorgeous library filled with art and design books and is of course decorated with fantastic pieces of furniture.

Each floor of the hotel is painted and decorated by a different local artist, which places the hotel perfectly in its surroundings – a beautiful take on street art, except the art now becomes part of the interior design. The hotel also hosts exhibit openings for young and upcoming artists.

A wood mural by artist Nivi Alroy decorates some of the hotel’s walls.

The rooms are absolutely lovely, and besides vast windows and clean minimalistic design, each have unique dramatic lighting fixtures. The hotel offers a great breakfast with a surprising amount of choice, which one can enjoy indoors or in a beautiful garden.

Another one of the hotel’s main pluses is that the beach is just a minute walk away!

Summertime is here! The perfect time to go sailing and spend as much time by the pool or at the beach as possible! Us working girls don’t always have the kind of time to sunbathe all day so what’s better than wearing the perfect summer dress to make you feel like you are at sea?!
Nautical-inspired clothing is the kind of the trend that comes back every summer season and leaves us feeling like the coolest skipper in town!

Rony wore a wave print T Shirt dress with a striped quilt bag, rope and gold necklace, patterned and studded cuffs and cage high heeled sandals.

Vera wore a cut-out striped dress with a rope belt, layered charm necklace, gold plate necklace and vintage cat heel sandals.

The great thing about these dresses is that they could be worn with heels to a party on a yacht or can be worn over a bikini for the hottest look at the beach. All it takes is the right shoes and accessories!

Hey there!

Travel is one of our all time favorite activities; to us it is life’s most amazing luxury! We love traveling abroad but we also love leaving the city every once in a while in search of our country’s hidden gems and most beautiful locations.

This time we travelled two hours north of Tel Aviv to the city of Acre, or Akko as it is called in Hebrew.

ImageAcre is one of the most ancient port cities in the world and according to historians was founded during the ancient bronze era; during biblical times. Acre was an important city due to its strategic location. It was conquered by different empires and rules by many different leaders. The location also attracted many sailors, poets, artists, warriors and visitors, who often visited as a rest stop along their route to other parts of the world.

ImageOur first stop in the old city was the knight halls, which is still undergoing restoration. Although the site isn’t fully refurbished, it still has quite dramatic effects. While walking the halls we could just feel the history of the place and envision in our minds the story of the knights preparing their next fight.
In the early 1900’s these halls were used as jail cells where prisoners of the British Mandate on Israel were held.
ImageImageThe second stop was the Turkish bazaar. We quickly discovered that this site is a tourist trap, as everything is pretty overpriced, unlike the authentic bazaars we have visited. The highlight of the bazaar was a really nice gelato shop with homemade ice cream!
The city has beautiful galleries and exhibits. One of our favorites was an exhibit featuring historical pieces, some dating back all the way to the early 20th century! As architects we were especially intrigued by the furniture exhibits, featuring amazing Turkish wooden furniture. We were in absolute lust!
ImageThe old city’s port is a beautiful spot for a romantic stroll. We of course did some shopping in the old city’s market, where one could find fresh fish and  Baklava (a dessert considered a delicacy in the Arab world), home goods, jewelry, and our favorite: lots of shoes!
ImageImageImageImageImageOn this summertime excursion Vera wore an oversized tunic, denim mini skirt, golden sandals, a hat and lots of sunscreen!

Sheer clothing is so hot right now! What we love about this trend is how versatile it is: it can have a romantic, delicate look, it can go more sexy and bold and it can also be totally right as office wear! It’s all a matter of layering the fabric and putting together the outfit.

Vera wore a dotted sheer fuchsia blouse over a camisole with sheer overlay shorts, strappy wedges, and a gold and lavender rope necklace.

Rony wore a sheer patterned button down blouse with a blue high waisted skirt, leopard print high heeled mary janes, multicolored drop necklace, ear cuff earrings and big cocktail rings.

Both of us rocked one of our favorite hot accessories of the moment – the see through clutch. Vera chose a neon yellow version and Rony a clear one.

The funnest thing about summer is that you can get away with wearing and mixing almost any colors! If you’re not comfortable with wearing bright colors in your clothes, incorporate them into your accessories as we did: Vera’s purple necklace and neon yellow purse and Rony’s multicolored necklace and bright orange ring.

One rule of thumb we always like to follow is to either reveal on the upper body or to reveal on the lower body, never both. With this trend we feel it is especially true, so that the outfit doesn’t become too over the top. And if you decide to go bold and show some skin, don’t forget to wear your best under garments!

Summer is officially here, and what a way to kick summer off with the month of July, the month of both our birthdays!

Days and nights are getting warmer and the humidity is getting more intense. Time to break out some easy breezy, comfortable summer wear!
Our favorite summer uniform is long loose dresses, classy ones that labels such as Oscar de la Renta and Diane Von Furstenberg have been perfecting each season. Ones that you can wear all day in sandals or slip on a pair of heels and wear in the evening.

Here are some of our favorites:
Rony wore a midi strapless print dress with a waist cinching belt, gold leather sandals, rope and gold woven clutch, wide brimmed hat and lots of vintage jewelry.

IMG_83601

Rony’s outfit is perfect for long days in the sun. The right accessories keep it stylish and chic.

Vera wore a loose fitted print baby doll mini dress with cork wedges and a large beaded necklace.

IMG_83752

Vera’s dress is so comfortable it can last you through an entire hot day. Vera’s accessories offset the cuteness of the dress and make the look more grown up – ready to tackle business as well as pleasure!

We found the most amazing location for this photoshoot: a section of Herzlia park that was recently remodeled with a wooden walkway surrounded by tall reeds and trees. The perfect spot for a picnic or a summer stroll!
