Picasso said that “The purpose of Art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls”.
We couldn’t agree more; we can get so caught up in our day to day lives that we sometimes need to get away from it all and find art to be a perfect form of escape. Art allows our minds and imaginations to wonder and go wild. It gives us inspiration and new ideas.

Last weekend we visited It is and it isn’t, an exhibit by American artist Nick Kuszyk at Saga, a modern art gallery in Jaffa. Kuszyk, aka RRobots, became well known for his colorful robot-themed street art which has now become a gorgeous part of New York City’s urban landscape.

While we loved Kuszyk’s robots and other adorable creatures, we were really taken with the geometric and architectural turn his art has taken.

IMG_7591 IMG_7601 IMG_7586 IMG_7597

We loved the colors the artist uses in his work and how the graphic qualities made the paintings look three dimensional.

IMG_7571 IMG_7577 IMG_7600

All this was especially beautiful and powerful when set against the gallery’s heavy exposed concrete architectural style.

Capes were all the rage in the fall collections, and for good reason; what’s more fun than feeling like storybook heroines while braving the rain and the cold?!

We decided to give capes a go in one of our favorite colors – Red. Red is a very powerful, feminine, eye-catching color; exactly the kind of mood lifting color we need for those dreary cold winter days!

Rony wore a hooded Urban Outfitters cape with an Asos faux fur stole.

Under the cozy coverup she wore a button down feather print blouse, print skirt, rhinestones necklace, earrings, rings and cuff, and Steve Madden velvet peep toe wedges.

Rony’s faux fur and piles of accessories made this outfit lavish and fit to impress.

Vera wore a knit turtleneck cape.

IMG_08461

Under her cozy coverup she wore an asymmetrical top, velvet leggings, blush red flats and a gold geometric necklace.

IMG_08551 IMG_08561 IMG_08582 IMG_08641

The great thing about Vera’s cape is its versatility: it can be worn as a cape or a scarf and create different looks.

Velvet is coming back in a big way this season. We suggest wearing little touches of velvet here and there for a cool wintery effect.

One of our fun joys in life is makeup. We love playing around with it as much as we love playing with our outfits. Being the busy girls we are, our makeup routine is usually very basic. We recently received a wonderful gift: the book Makeup is Art by the Academy of Freelance Makeup, a book filled with amazing ideas and inspirations. We decided to take this opportunity and really get inspired and explore looks we don’t usually wear.

IMG_6448

Vera went for earthly tones of brown, gold and light pink. These are the perfect makeup colors for fall and they beautifully compliment her red cape.

IMG_08522

Rony decided to mix colors and went for turquoise and antique pink on her eyes and bright pink on her lips. These colors bring out Rony’s brown eyes and give her outfit an edgy flair.

Along with the fabulous book, we also received a massive package of Joy treats (oh the perks of being fashion bloggers). Joy treats are a new product launched and manufactured by Strauss Group, an international food and beverage company based in Israel.

IMG_6447

The idea behind “Joy” is to give consumers just that – a big joy they can enjoy for breakfast, on their break at work, or when they get home from a busy and exhausting day. The treats come in awesome flavors (our favorite is the chocolate with coconut bits) which include fruit chunks and chocolate sprinkles and other delicacies.

Strauss also launched a Joy %0 fat treat so we can enjoy all that chocolaty taste without feeling guilty.

IMG_10291What we like to enJOY when we get home: Fashion magazines and Joy treats!

IMG_10331Besides fashion, sweets are definitely some of our greatest joys in life, especially when they come packaged in such pretty fall colors! Yes, we see fashion in everything!

Hello fellow fashion lovers!

We find that there’s no more inspiring fashion scene than the one found on the streets. The styles found on the streets of New York during the latest New York Fashion Week were no exception! From Olivia Palermo to Miroslava Duma, the ladies of New York fashion wowed us! One theme we particularly loved on the ladies were the different modern takes on flower prints.

Here are some of our ideas:

Flowered Romance
Vera’s version, a romantic pleated frock in subdued fall colors, is perfect for evenings as we transition into fall.

IMG_92851
Vera wore a one shoulder pleated flower print dress with a vintage Prada bag, peep-toe kitten heels, gold chain necklace with leaf pendants, and a link cuff.

IMG_91782 IMG_91812 IMG_91902IMG_92191 IMG_92211 IMG_92571IMG_92641 IMG_92701 IMG_92731 IMG_92801

**maternity styling tips** The empire cut of Vera’s dress is a comfortable and flattering shape for maternity, because it is sewn above the belly and from there flows down.

This dress can be worn during the day with a cardigan and ankle boots, or in the evening with high heels.

Rose Garden
For those of you who are having trouble letting summer go, as we are, bright colors and mismatched prints are still in style and sure to raise the mood of any fall day.

IMG_92361
Rony wore a pop art inspired flower print top by Blueberry, flower print peplum skirt, vintage pumps, pearl and satin flower earrings by designer Lee Kodo, and oversized bright colored cocktail rings.

The Fall 2013 collections boasted accessories and jewelry that were as colorful and intricate as the clothes.

This week’s pick is a photo we took while modeling for designer Adi Ashur in the post Belles of the Ball in Tel Aviv’s Florentine neighborhood. Many of the walls in this neighborhood are covered with paintings that take graffiti to a whole new level of street art. We found this wall painting particularly moving and clever, with the Braille writing and the figure’s deep expression.

Florentine neighborhood is home to many locksmith, wood and artist workshops so we find it so beautiful that the very buildings serve as canvas for street artists to express themselves!

We may not be professional photographers but we are pretty proud of our photography skills! Here we will share with you some of our favorite photos from our instagram page, many of which were taken on the locations of our fashion photoshoots!

Spatial Origami

Tel Aviv Museum of Art

Our pick of the week is a photo we took while visiting Tel Aviv’s Museum of Art’s new addition which was designed by American architect Preston Scott Cohen. Pictured is the intriguing interior space and play on light the architect created. We love how the concrete structure appears to be paper origami!

This museum was the location of our photoshoot for the post Shades of Gray.

Hello fellow busy fashionistas of the world!

Our favorite kind of fashion consists of clothes that are not only chic but also comfortable and wearable; Clothes that are flattering without having to skip a meal and practical throughout a busy day. We introduce the item of the season: The slouchy trousers!

IMG_6097

These pants meet all the aforementioned categories and also come in gorgeous prints you can mix and match for a unique look. These are great pants to transition into fall season with: Practical and breathable.

Vera wore colorful flower print trousers with a white T-Shirt, studded moccasins, piled silver necklaces and geometric drop earrings.

**Styling Tip** Casual Fridays at the office are a great opportunity to wear your favorite comfortable T-Shirts and flats!

Rony wore black and white print trousers, embroidered peplum top, multicolored satchel, peach slingbacks, and a rope and beads necklace.

IMG_86842 IMG_86961 IMG_86971
**Styling Tip** Just because you’re stuck in an office all day doesn’t mean your outfit should be boring. Another way of spicing things up is with your nail polish! Rony chose attention-grabbing bright blue!

Since these trousers are loose and oversized, we recommend wearing something more form fitting on top, for a slim look.

Startup Nation
Israel is known worldwide for its success in high-tech development and business. The country is ranked 3rd in the region and 38th worldwide on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index, as well as in the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report. It has the second-largest number of startup companies in the world (after the United States) and the largest number of NASDAQ-listed companies outside North America. That’s quite impressive for a country with a population of 8 million!

The Israeli economy was ranked as the world’s most durable economy in the face of crises, and was also ranked first in the rate of research and development center investments. Israel is well known for its innovation and development of cutting-edge technologies. For example, it is a leading country in the development of solar energy and water conservation. Some Israeli startups invented products that billions worldwide can’t live without. Case in point: Waze, the GPS application that has become a household name.

What this means for local architects like us is that more and more office towers are getting built to house all those creative minds. Innovation is apparent in the architecture as well: modern high-technology designed, ecological buildings are being built all over the city.

Tel Aviv has a growing number of boutique hotels, each one with its own unique style and chic version of urban accommodation. We had the great privilege of staying at one of the city’s coolest new boutique hotels – Artplus Tel Aviv.

portfolio01_big

This hotel was named 2013 top Israel hotels by Traveler’s Choice, and rightfully so. It is located on Ben Yehuda street in central Tel Aviv, a two minute walk from Tel Aviv’s famous strip of Mediterranean shoreline.

We have both visited big cities around the world, whether in the US, Europe, Canada, or South America (not to mention that Vera grew up in St. Petersburg and Rony in Boston), and we often feel that we’ve seen it all – all the hotels are the same with their own little twists here and there, there’s rarely a surprise. Artplus, however, is a breath of fresh air in what seems a jaded sector of architecture and design.

The main façade of the hotel, on busy Ben Yehuda street, is a gentle and understated play on glass, shading, and graphic art. It is a modern take on Tel Aviv’s famous Bauhaus architecture that immediately, although very subtly, draws attention and lures visitors.

This hotel celebrates art and design on every level. The lobby holds a gorgeous library filled with art and design books and is of course decorated with fantastic pieces of furniture.

IMG_60041 IMG_60012 IMG_60021Rony enjoys the artful surroundings at the hotel lobby.

Each floor of the hotel is painted and decorated by a different local artist, which places the hotel perfectly in its surroundings – a beautiful take on street art, except the art now becomes part of the interior design. The hotel also hosts exhibit openings for young and upcoming artists.

A wood mural by artist Nivi Alroy decorates some of the hotel’s walls.

The rooms are absolutely lovely, and besides vast windows and clean minimalistic design, each have unique dramatic lighting fixtures. The hotel offers a great breakfast with a surprising amount of choice, which one can enjoy indoors or in a beautiful garden.

Another one of the hotel’s main pluses is that the beach is just a minute walk away!
