As architects, there’s nothing that inspires us more than an open plaza overlooking the city’s buildings – the square shapes, the different proportions, the geometries. As fashionistas, there’s nothing we love more than mixing prints and wearing things our own way.

Geometric prints have ruled the fashion scene for the past couple seasons and show no sign of slowing down. Whether it was checkered dresses at Vuitton or rhombus print suits at Prada, this trend is everywhere you look! We particularly loved the pop art qualities of the lavish prints and decided to paint a picture of our own:

Rony wore an Escher-esque print puffy sleeved dress with a checkered Prada bag, studded moccasins and lots of big and bold geometric jewelry.

Vera’s tunic is so versatile – it can be worn as a dress or tucked in as a blouse and can be casual or office ready with a fitted blazer.

Happy anniversary to our blog! What We Wear is a year old, and what a year it has been!!

What started from an idea of posting random pictures of our daily outfits here and there became an amazing worldwide fashion community! It all happened thanks to you, our amazing followers and readers! All the support gave us the motivation to build up a platform of fashion for “real people”, which expanded with forays into art, design, travel and culture all through our personal point of view.

What We Wore

How it all started!

We may attempt to pose like we’re gracing the pages of Vogue, but we never take ourselves too seriously. For this very special Blogaversary post we decided to share with you the “behind the scenes”, some of the funniest and most awkward moments from some of our posts over the past year:

Flower Children

We have so much fun we tend to forget ourselves; the camera can keep rolling and rolling.. More from this post here.

Blue Jeans

We try to reinvent posing. Vera: Horse face is the new duck face! More from Blue Jeans here.

Summer sunshine in a Winter Wonderland

Tongues are The Thing in our post Summer Sunshine in a Winter Wonderland

Balloons do wonders for your hair!Makeup Your Mind

We too have to brave the elements: sun in our eyes and wind in our face in Makeup your Mind

Fashion Playground

We don’t always look graceful in high heels. Rony’s high heeled platforms sinking in the sand in our post Fashion Playground.

Hitchcock Heroines

We get really silly. Vera gets a bit too into the horror movie theme in Hitchcock Heroines

Hot Pants!

We pay for buying cheap! Vera in Hot Pants

Who runs the World? Girls!

We get really possessive. “That’s my necklace! No, mine!”

Midriff Barers

We can somehow magically switch haircolor. Vera being the blonde: “Wait, what..??”

Color Blocking

We are afraid of big bad monsters. Rony: “OMG is that a bee?!”

Midriff Barers

We’re great at multitasking, even while shooting our post Midriff Barers. Uber-fashionable pool cleaner anyone?

The Skirt Chronicles

We get really really tired. Rony takes a nap while shooting The Skirt Chronicles ZzzzZZZzzZzzzz.

But in all seriousness, our blog has given us an “excuse” to visit and document some of the most wonderful sites Tel Aviv has to offer.

And at the end of the day we always have fun because we are, afterall, best friends!

Casual Glam

Having a silly moment while shooting our post Casual Glam

This is the perfect opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us over the past year: our friends and families, those who allowed us to style them, those who allowed us to photograph them, the photographers and collaborators, the city of Tel Aviv and Israel in general for being the perfect backdrop, and most of all our amazing readers!

So what’s coming up next you ask? A lot of fashion of course, more cooperative work with the most amazing local designers, soon to come our own fashion column in a popular British website, full coverage of the local fashion events, more Street Style stars, personal styling tips and much more!

This was a very fun and inspired week for What We Wear as we attended “Flash”, a fashion event that promotes young up and coming designers.

Flash Fashion Event

The event featured the latest collections in clothing, jewelry, outerwear and even tights. All the gorgeous creations on sale were definitely a sight for sore eyes!

Among our favorite collections on display at the event:
Petitaureau: A jewelry and accessories label designed by the talented Mayan Hazan which features ultra feminine and delicate items with admirable attention to details. Everything from the pendants (or pin) to the clasps is adorned with hearts, stars, skulls, etc. Adorable!

Itay Gonen Accessories: An eponymous label offering serious statement making jewelry made from a variety of materials. This is the kind of jewelry that could make an entire outfit, no need for anything else!

Ida Nudel: Remember our lavish photoshoot with fashion designer Adi Ashur? Ida Nudel was her classmate at Wizo Design Academy, and is just as talented. On display were feminine and adorable tops, dresses and pants. We were really impressed by the craftsmanship of Ida’s collection, particularly the hand-sewn jackets! Gorgeous works of art!

Some other designer highlights were Guapa, a collection dedicated to leggings, in every color and every print! The designer was just as cool as her pieces.

Miki B‘s collection offers beautiful clothes in so many colors and prints. Our favorite was a fluffy, sparkly, multicolored number that we wish we would’ve found before New Year’s Eve; it would’ve been the perfect piece to wear!

The event took place at the cool and trendy Polaroid bar and was joined by cool beats courtesy of Dj Lomp & Joe.

Ladies and Gents, we are thrilled to introduce our new Tel Aviv Street Style column! Tel Aviv is an up and coming fashion capital with its own say and unique quirky style. Some of the city’s more inspiring fashion stars are just the people walking down the street. Since we love to people watch so much, we decided to start documenting as well!

Tel Aviv Fashion Week is in full force and while the city is filled with super fashionable people and designer runway shows, the boutiques are celebrating as well!

You know those boutiques that are so beautiful you just have to stroll through them even if you can’t afford to buy anything? Such is Razili, a boutique selling all the biggest names in Israeli fashion and design innovation.

Of course we were thrilled to attend the boutique’s Fashion Night event, as part of Fashion Week.

Razili has a very unique approach to fashion and works hard on promoting young and promising Israeli designers. Their clothes are made from top notch fabrics and innovative sewing and cuts. Even better, if you ask us, are their accessories! One of our favorite jewelry labels is Noritami. If you recall, Rony rocked their wood and gold necklace at Tel Aviv’s Ready to Wear event. Noritami design accessories using a mix of unconventional materials, such as wood, polymer and fabric with all kinds of metals. The designs themselves are very architectural, which we are of course drawn to.

We loved seeing how the girls in the store put together their outfits, each giving the beautiful clothes and accessories their own twist!

The event was joined by a very romantic rainstorm that marked the much awaited official start of fall in Israel!

Rony wore a maxi asymmetrical navy skirt with a cream knit turtleneck, brown leather jacket, camel booties, golden lace necklace, and a Coach bag.

Vera wore forest green skinny jeans with an oversized gray sweater, green men’s cardigan, gray scarf, oversized necklace, satchel, and the Fly Foot booties we got during Fly Foot’s collection launch party.

Rony felt very artistic that night…

We hope you’re enjoying a very romantic autumn!

Tel Aviv’s finest boutiques opened their doors to some of the city’s coolest fashionistas, models, drag queens, tweens and other passerbys for the first ever Fashion Night Out Tel Aviv!

The event took place at Tel Aviv’s uber-exclusive Kikar Hamedina, a central square which is home to the most luxurious boutiques selling both Israeli and international labels.

Balloons at Burberry

Some boutiques we particularly enjoyed:
Persy had a live dj who played very cool electro beats and self serve Jaegermeister and Red Bull next to some amazing dresses.

Pearls, gold, and diamonds (and amazing goodie bag) at Pandora

Madame de Pompadour had dames dressed in 18th century costumes playing the violin and entertaining the crowds.

Michal and Moran, a Tel Avivi label we happen to love, had their mannequin sitting pretty in a gorgeous pale gown on a wooden horse in the middle of the red carpet.

It was hard to tell what sparkled the most, the dresses, the Champaign or the fashion stars strolling the carpet!

For us this event was especially meaningful because it puts our city on the map as a true fashion capital.

Rony’s FNO outfit: cotton romper, men’s suit jacket, vintage heart shaped purse, sequins and fabric necklace, silver jewelry and metallic strappy high heeled sandals.

Follow us as we report from more fashion events during Tel Aviv’s month of fashion! Coming up next: an intimate afternoon with one of Israel’s most influential designers, international fashion bloggers visit Tel Aviv, fashion shows and events and much more!

What We Wear was asked to cover Tel Aviv’s 2012 Ready to Wear Fair, and we were honored to oblige.
Ready to Wear is an annual fashion fair that presents Tel Aviv’s finest and most prominent names in clothing, jewelry, shoes, and accessories. The fair was open to the public this weekend and featured big names in design such as ‘Yosef’, cala, Liat Ginsburg and much more!

This fair features a special sales event, making unique designer clothes more accessible and affordable. This is part of the reason why we believe in this fair so much and were so thrilled to get the opportunity to write about it. We were impressed by all the fashions we saw, but here are some of our favorite labels featured at the fair:

Most innovative and fun: Lilla My Jewelry

This designer’s booth immediately caught our attention, what with the beautiful colors and unexpected mix of materials. The designer was quite attention grabbing herself, with her blue hair, amazing velvet hair tie and bag and jewelry (all self designed of course).

All the accessories are handmade and crafted from dolls, pieces of puzzles, rulers, and other bits and pieces that one wouldn’t normally consider an accessory.

Most “Us”: Ulla

We were drawn to this designer because it seemed everything on the racks was created especially for us; every single piece the designer showcased was exactly our taste!

The collection featured a beautiful mix of 20′s and 50′s dresses each given a modern touch. Each dress was completely unique and together the collection was a fete of colors, prints and textures.

Craftsmanship and materials: Beaucoup Beaucoup

We were very impressed and taken by the craftsmanship of the stitching and the beautiful materials at Beaucoup Beaucoup. The collection they offer is very minimalistic at first glance. However, each piece is made of another amazing fabric that is breathable and wearable and at the same time luxurious.

We couldn’t stop touching the clothes! We found that these pieces represent Tel Aviv fashion so well – seemingly simple at first yet have some incredibly unique quality to them.

The fair was very successful in that it offered such a variety of styles and fashions; there was something for everyone – on sale!

The event took place at ZOA House, which seemed the perfect setting. ZOA House has beautiful interior design, with an impressive spiral staircase, chandelier which gives the space very warm lighting, along with the natural lighting from the vast windows, and an intricate ceiling installation.

It was obviously important for us to dress to impress, here are our outfit choices:

Vera wore a paisley print skirt with a brown tank top, knit oversized cardigan, studded belt, metal mesh necklace, and metal adorned flats.

I showed my support for Israeli labels by wearing a wood and gold necklace by the amazing Israeli jewelry design duo Noritamy. I wore a rose print tank dress with an oversized print clutch and golden-toed flats.

We truly hope that spring has arrived to your home town because it surely hit ours!

The lovely warm weather and all the flowers that are blooming right now make us crave flowy dresses, hats and of course our favorite accessory- vests. So of course we decided to go boho chic on this post and show you how the look can be achieved.

Rony wore an  A-lined collar navy and white checkered dress. The layers of the dress along with the striped brownish gray vest looked fabulous on Rony and really flattered her shape. She wore nomad-like suede flat booties and a men’s straw panama hat. Sometimes it’s fun to steal from the boys, masculine accessories give feminine dresses a cool twist.

I wore a long floral dress sewn by none other than my mother and moi! The short puffy sleeves of the dress flatter my arms and the high waisted shape combined with the long length would give anyone a beautifully long silhouette. My strappy camel wedges probably helped with the long silhouette :) But flats will look fabulous as well!

Oh the bohemian life… flowy dresses, cool jewelry, awesome music and art and a chilled lifestyle.. sound good? Sounds amazing to us!

So take a walk on the beach, enjoy the sand and the breeze and the sun! But don’t forget to stop for some refreshments in the hot weather!

Hello friends,

We love you so much we decided to take you shopping with us! Summer is fast approaching so we decided to go scavenge some wardrobe staples for the upcoming hot weather.

From Dior to Urban Outfitters, flowy dresses in cool prints are going to be big this season. We found layered mini dresses in cool zig zag prints for only $10!

Cool sheer tops can get you a long way – breezy enough to be worn during the day with shorts, dressy enough to be worn in the evening with a smart pant or high waisted skirt. We particularly liked the ones we spotted in black and hot pink, a color that is always big in summer and looks great with sun kissed skin.

As all you fashionistas must know, accessories can really make the outfit. We loved this orange faux leather bag, it will definitely give any outfit a serious color boost. Jimmy Choo’s summer collection offers a few citrus colored croc bags, as does Blugirl. But guess what, the bag we found was only $15!!

We love retro, going retro is always a great way to be unique and feminine. These polka dot high waisted skirts have just the right fix of 50′s chic and are breezy and light so will be great in the hot summer months. Kate Spade’s summer 2012 collection featured a similar skirt, and polka dots in general were big in the resort collections. For more accessible prices, Topshop has some cool 50′s inspired skirts in flowery prints.

Just because summer means bathing suits and being half naked doesn’t mean we can neglect our style and good taste! There are plenty of accessories that we can play with and plenty of cool options of what to wear over the swimsuit.

The hats we tried on, for example, are very St. Tropez. Similar ones were seen at Blumarine’s resort collection and at Alice + Olivia.

Take advantage of time you have off for spring break and go shopping with friends, mom, or by yourslef! Remember, money can’t buy taste and good style can be found even at low prices.
We would love to hear about your summer staples and what you plan to wear when it gets hot!

Hello fashionistas!

Our own Vera made it on HaAretz newspaper’s best dressed list! We are soooooo proud!!

Vera was photographed at the recent exhibit opening we blogged about http://wattwewear.wordpress.com/2012/03/09/paper-and-stuff/

and was chosen out of all the celebs at the opening to be featured on the best dressed list! My little girl is all grown up, I couldn’t be more proud!!!

Vera wore a knee length strapless dress over a black mesh top with a leather jacket and bag and lace up booties. The necklace was her own concoction, to match the coffee table she exhibited at the opening, how ingenious! The earings were designed and created by her dad.

Congradulations Vera!
