Hello fashion darlings,

Israel is known for its rich natural scenery and landscapes that seemingly change with every step you take. From beautiful forests and green mountains up north to Mediterranean beaches to never ending deserts in the south, there’s lots to see here. This time on our travels we visited the Golan Heights, close to the northern border of Israel.

The Golan Heights with their green mountains are known to be hiker friendly with lots of caves and historic areas among the sites. One of the latest sites that we discovered is Ein kshatot (“Um El-Kantar”), an archeological site of ruins of a Roman-era Jewish city, most prominent of which are the remains of an ancient synagogue. This amazing site is still under reconstruction but one can already experience the rich history of Judaism imprinted in this site. The synagogue is assumed to have been built somewhat between the 1st and the 2nd century A.C and is one of the most significant historical sites to have been discovered in Israel. The site was discovered in 1885 by Lawrence Olliphant, a British writer and diplomat, who had written in his findings that the place was abandoned. The site was later on rebuilt and refurbished (and is still undergoing reconstruction) by an Israeli archeologist, Yeshua Drey.

Hi everyone!

Fashion is not just about clothing and accessories; it doesn’t only have to do with what’s trendy and fabulous. As Coco Chanel said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening”.

Rose

Men and women that are aware of their appearance and have their own sense of style will always look fashionable, no matter what they wear.

So really fashion is all about the visual – whether it be a Chanel jacket, modern urban architecture or a beautiful garden.

This weekend we discovered an amazing park just forty minutes outside of Tel Aviv where the visual was an awe-inspiring one. The park, called Ramat Hanadiv, was created in commemoration of Baron Edmond De Rothschild and his close family. The baron was a wealthy French man who donated a lot of his wealth during the British Mandate in Israel for the welfare of the first Jewish settlers of the new state.

Ramat Hanadiv

The park is divided into several different gardens and offers visitors a range of pleasurable pursuits. Throughout the Park are different hiking trails where one will pass through typical Mediterranean terrain, beautiful views at the observation point, sites of prehistoric settlement, and hidden spring – all meant to help preserve the ancient landscape of Israel.

The eastern view from the park

We were highly impressed by the level of maintenance of the beautiful gardens and by how the ecosystems in the park are being sustained. The trees and the foliage are a combination of European and Mediterranean species, creating a visual that is very European with Spanish influence, and at the same time very Israeli.

The park Information Center building is the first and only existing LEED certified building in Israel – a building which follows international rules of sustainable architecture. The building was built inside of a hill, maintaining the natural terrain and designing architecture that goes along with its natural habitat. Electricity at the site is created solely from solar power collected using special solar panels. The plants and trees are all grown at an onsite greenhouse and are watered by a recycled gray water irrigation system.

As designers and architects we were inspired by the design solutions achieved at the park’s landscape and architecture!

Whenever you feel you have had enough of the city we recommend visiting a beautiful park and taking a breath of unpolluted fresh air!

Dear friends,
The situation in Israel has been pretty scary in the past week, with violence emanating from the Hamas organization in Gaza towards Israel. Over 1500 missiles were launched in the past week alone, causing deaths and injuries on both sides. Needless to say, it was a very hard, stressful, and tense week! Such hard times call for unity and good deeds.
Israel Defense Forces soldiers and reservists were enlisted to the ongoing struggle and were based along Israel’s southern border with Gaza, putting their lives at risk to protect the citizens of the country.
Our close friend Sofie, who was tired of not being able to aid in the struggle, decided to do an amazing deed and raise money to show the soldiers how much their country appreciates them. In just two days Sofie raised over 7000 NIS ($1700), donated by friends and family in Israel as well as other countries such as the US and England. The money was used to buy the soldiers supplies they desperately need like adequate clothing for the cold desert nights, sanitary items, warm food, and lots of sweets and treats to keep their morale and energy high. Sofie drove all the way to the front lines in order to personally deliver all the goods to the soldiers.

Our soldiers are working hard and doing an amazing job keeping us safe. They were thrilled to have received all the goods donated by amazing people around the world.
Thank you everyone for your generous donations and thank you Sofie, you are amazing!!
Love,
V&R

Tel Aviv Fashion Week is in full force and while the city is filled with super fashionable people and designer runway shows, the boutiques are celebrating as well!

You know those boutiques that are so beautiful you just have to stroll through them even if you can’t afford to buy anything? Such is Razili, a boutique selling all the biggest names in Israeli fashion and design innovation.

Of course we were thrilled to attend the boutique’s Fashion Night event, as part of Fashion Week.

Razili has a very unique approach to fashion and works hard on promoting young and promising Israeli designers. Their clothes are made from top notch fabrics and innovative sewing and cuts. Even better, if you ask us, are their accessories! One of our favorite jewelry labels is Noritami. If you recall, Rony rocked their wood and gold necklace at Tel Aviv’s Ready to Wear event. Noritami design accessories using a mix of unconventional materials, such as wood, polymer and fabric with all kinds of metals. The designs themselves are very architectural, which we are of course drawn to.

We loved seeing how the girls in the store put together their outfits, each giving the beautiful clothes and accessories their own twist!

The event was joined by a very romantic rainstorm that marked the much awaited official start of fall in Israel!

Rony wore a maxi asymmetrical navy skirt with a cream knit turtleneck, brown leather jacket, camel booties, golden lace necklace, and a Coach bag.

Vera wore forest green skinny jeans with an oversized gray sweater, green men’s cardigan, gray scarf, oversized necklace, satchel, and the Fly Foot booties we got during Fly Foot’s collection launch party.

Rony felt very artistic that night…

We hope you’re enjoying a very romantic autumn!

Happy Halloween everyone!

Every year costumes get crazier and more creative. This year Vera decided to really go crazy and dress up as a sketch she drew day before!
The inspiration for the sketch was Clockwork Orange meets Tim Burton characters meet Kill Bill, and throw in the mix a bunch of horror movies!

Hello fashion darlings!

Last Thursday What We Wear was invited to the launch of comfort shoes label FLY FOOT’s winter collection, and not only did we have a blast but also learned a lot!

FLY FOOT is an Italian shoe label whose motto is “The beauty in comfort.” Yes that’s right, comfortable shoes made fabulous and stylish!

The label’s winter collection puts an emphasis on offering all the latest trends and styles in shoe wear, as well as some classic styles, while never compromising the shoes’ comfort.

The collection was launched with a few words from the label’s spokeswoman who explained why FLY FOOT shoes are so special in the comfort department, and what makes them so different from other comfort shoes.

The main feature which makes Fly Foot shoes so amazing are their specially designed thin soles which are cushioned from the inside for maximum comfort, while the cushion is hidden so no one notices that you’re wearing “comfort shoes”; all they notice is fab fab fab!

The next attraction was a special instruction on how to walk in high heels, the right way! As What We Wear should be considered professional heel walkers we didn’t think anyone could tell us anything we didn’t already know; we have to admit, we learned a lot and would like to share our new wisdom with you!

You can also watch the video Here.

The first thing you need to know is: When walking in heels, put your whole weight on the heel rather than on the cushion of the foot. If you are unable to do this it means that the heel is too high. Whenever you see a girl walking weird it means her heels are too high for her. While this looks ridiculous, it’s really not funny for her back, knees, feet, etc.
The second thing is: Take small steps, remember you’re not in a marathon and surely you want to look graceful. Treat the sidewalk as your runway!
The third thing is: Practice; as in everything in life, practice makes perfect!

The funnest part of attending fashion launches are the goodies! Our reward was an amazingly chic and of course incredibly comfortable pair of booties!

Have a great week and remember, there is nothing more beautiful than a woman who feels good about herself!

Kisses,

Hello friends!

In the days of Shakespeare it was sexy for a woman to reveal even just an ankle or her shoulders. Sometimes we long for that era when everything was more romantic, less obvious and in your face. Collections this season have been showing pieces with little cutouts here and there, revealing a bit of skin just enough to inspire epic romance!

Cut outs are so big this season, they’re everywhere you look! Dressy shirts with open shoulders, dresses with cut outs around the waist, trousers, shorts and much else!

In the spirit of romantic theater, this photoshoot was taken at Tel Aviv’s HaBima Theater which is home to some of Israel’s most wonderful plays. The theater was designed by architect Ram Karmi and both the building itself and its courtyard feature geometric elements which provide different perspectives on the urban space, and different gathering area for all the public to enjoy.

Rony wore a button down magenta patterned dress with shoulder cutouts. She wore the dress with leopard print slipper flats, quilted bag, and big gold cuffs and rings to set off the “sweetness” of the dress. The A shaped dress is very flattering and is a must for every closet! It creates a feminine look for even the most straight-lined shapes.

Vera wore a black and white patterned tunic with shoulder cutouts, which she wore with black leggings, black strappy sandals, and a big golden chain. The tunic is shapeless and baggy so it goes really well with leggings for a skinny leg effect. The strappy sandals compliment the graphic pattern of the tunic.

Cut outs are a great way of showing skin in a demure unexpected way without wearing anything too short or too tight. This trend is very flattering on all body types. Just beware of cutouts that reveal too much!

A little DIY tip for cutouts: take an old buttoned up shirt (your dad’s or brothers’ shirts would be awesome) and cut the area you want according to the stitch line so the cut will look good!

Have a great week!

Hello fashion people!!

We don’t know if you’ve noticed but lately the media is filled with fairy tale stories, reviving some classic ones and putting a modern twist on them. From “Mirror Mirror” starring Julia Roberts and Kristen Stewart’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” to the successful television series “Once Upon a Time” and “True Blood” sexy take on fairies; wherever you look it’s fantasy time!

Rony wore a strapless white lace dress with cutout silver flats and Tiffany’s Jewelry (fit for every fairy princess!)

The dress is very flowy and breezy and the romantic lace gives the ultimate fairy look. Rony’s dress could be dressed up or down depending on the shoes and accessories it is worn with, and is perfect for events as we transition from summer into fall.

Vera wore a two piece dress with a cream silk top and a layered tulle and fluff skirt on the bottom. This dress is also perfect for summer and spring events, especially for daytime events!

We turned to our favorite makeup store, The Eye Shadow store, for looks to fit the fantasy. Vera went for lilacs with a golden hue and Rony wore pinks and orange. We both wore lots of glitter all over to spark some magic!

We used the following Eye Shadow Store colors to achieve our looks:

Vera used the purity, devotion, lilac, lavender, and dimension eye shadows. Rony used flame, softness, hot pink, passion, and dimension.

Hey all!

What is fashion without makeup?! The right makeup combination can do wonders for your look! We’re usually no-effort-required-makeup girls; the most we put on when we leave the house is mascara. However, when we really feel like bringing out our inner divas we like to wow them with our makeup!

For this post we paid a visit to our favorite eye makeup store, The Eye Shadow Store, for tips and guides on how to use your make up wisely to upgrade your daily and nightly looks with the help of the right products! We recently discovered The Eye Shadow Store on the internet and were thrilled to find a makeup collection with an incredible range of beautiful colors, high quality powder shadows and brushes and amazing tips on how to apply makeup like a pro!

http://www.eyeshadowstore.com/

Image

So here’s the step by step guide on how to get that smoky eye effect we’ve been lusting after!

1. Apply some primer or a concealer on your eye lid.

2. Choose a base color eye shadow and apply on the eye lid and a bit under the corner of the eye.

3. Choose a color a bit darker then the base and apply from the corner of the eye to the middle of lid and blur with the “Fluff’ brush.

Image

4. Choose s dark tone and apply just like before but a little closer to the brow

5. Choose an even darker tone, black for evening, and apply on the tip of the corner towards the brow

6. Apply the base tone again on the middle of the lid and towards the inner corner of the eye.

7. Apply a concealer under the eye

Image

8. Apply a very thin line with a dark tone eyeliner and a thick dose of mascara!

9. You are ready for the makeup foundation.

10. Don’t forget some blush and a touch of rouge!

Another amazing tip we got from The Eye Shadow Store is: when using the smoky eye effect you want all the attention to go to your eyes so use a nude lip color to keep from looking like the circus clown!

For the day look, Vera wore a patterned sheer envelope blouse with a cloth aquamarine skirt and gladiator wedges. Vera’s top made the outfit feminine summery and fresh and the skirt kept it office appropriate. She kept to the same theme in her makeup with very settled and calm, yet feminine pink and purple shades.

For the night look, hemlines can get shorter and the makeup can get bolder! Rony wore a neon sheer blouse, high waisted black skirt, high heeled oxfords and accessorized with a purple clutch. For her night out look the makeup upgrades her outfit and gives it another party boost! The marine green palette of eye shadows not only compliments the color of her top but also Rony’s large brown eyes. Whether rocking out on the dance floor or having drinks at the coolest newest bar, Rony’s makeup is perfect for the chic nightowl.
